Focus on control, safety, distractions, and trust
Two private sessions plus group class progression
Builds confidence for real-world handling

Level 2 is the second step in the Invisible Leash® system and is for dogs that have completed Level 1. It focuses on the transition from on-leash control to off-leash reliability.

This level strengthens what the dog learned in Level 1 and introduces the tools and techniques needed for distance, distraction, and safety work.

Like Level 1, it combines private instruction with group classes so the dog receives focused coaching and then practices around mild real-world distractions.

Because the system is progressive, Level 2 assumes the owner and dog already understand the specific communication system taught in Level 1.

Off-leash transition

Off-leash work requires verbal control. Level 2 teaches owners how to get better control using voice, structure, and the communication system already introduced in Level 1.

Safety is the core reason for this training. When a dog is off leash, the owner needs commands and techniques that keep the dog safe and responsive.

  • Control: stronger verbal response without relying on the leash
  • Safety: commands and techniques for off-leash situations
  • Distractions: response to commands no matter what is happening around the dog
  • Trust: a stronger bond between dog, owner, and the training system

Program details

Level 2 begins with two private training sessions at the facility. These sessions introduce off-leash obedience and the first steps toward higher-level Invisible Leash® work.

After the private sessions, owners attend small half-hour group classes. These classes give owners time to keep practicing, troubleshoot stumbling blocks, and progress at their own pace.

The source page describes eight small half-hour group classes after the private lessons, while one later heading references six classes. The important operational point is that group classes continue the work and can be completed at the owner's pace.

Owners do not need to attend every week or keep the same day and time. The classes are designed to fit real schedules.

  • Intro to off-leash obedience
  • Response to verbal commands at a distance
  • Techniques for complete off-leash control
  • The three most important commands a dog must know before going off leash
  • Next steps toward going completely off leash
  • Reliable recall around distractions
  • Off-leash heel position around distractions
  • Longer stays with distractions
  • Fast response to verbal commands in on-leash and off-leash situations

Program questions

What to know before you start.

Can I skip Level 1 if I trained somewhere else?

No. The Invisible Leash® system is progressive, and Level 1 establishes the communication system used in Level 2.

Can any breed learn off-leash control?

The program is built for all breeds, including breeds that many owners assume cannot be trained for off-leash reliability.

What if I completed Level 1 but do not want off-leash training?

The system can support different goals. The school also offers additional classes such as CGC and F.I.D.O., an indoor obstacle and obedience class.
